Beach bash, fireworks Friday in Clarkesville

Swingin’ Medallions to headline city’s annual Red, White & Tunes celebration 

The City of Clarkesville will host “Red, White & Tunes” this Friday evening, July 21st in Sam Pitts Park.  This free event features a Classic Cruise In at 6pm,  family activities at 7 p.m., a concert by the Swingin’ Medallions at 7:30 p.m., and a fireworks extravaganza capping off the event at 9:30pm.

Inflatable slides, as well as water sprinklers will provide pre-entertainment park activities beginning at 7 p.m.  Kona Ice and the Clarkesville Kiwanis Club will be serving concessions.

The Swingin’ Medallions, a Greenwood, S.C.-based group has toured around the country since the early 1960s. With a style they refer to as beach music, frat rock, R&B and shaggin’ music, the group regularly performs their signature songs to large crowds. The band was made famous by its 1966 single, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” and it remains the band’s signature song to this day.

In conjunction with the event, Red, White & Cruise – a Classic Cruise-In- will take place in the upper parking lot of the old courthouse, adjacent to the gazebo at 6 p.m.  All makes and models will be on display, and prizes will be awarded.  There is no fee to enter, and registration begins at 5 p.m. Final judging will take place at 8 p.m., and participants are encouraged to stay and for the concert and fireworks.
