The Baldwin Fire Department is relocating the bass tournament it’s hosting for Garrett Reiser due to the number of people who have signed up to fish.
So far, around 30 boaters are registered to participate in the August 27th tournament on Lake Hartwell. The tournament was to be held at the Poplar Springs boat ramp but instead, will launch from the mega ramp at Tugaloo State Park in Lavonia. The ramp is located just past the park guard shack at 1763 Tugaloo State Park Road.
Now with the new location, Roy says “There’s always room for more!”
The first place winner will get a trophy and the second place finisher a plaque. The entry fee is $70 per boat.
All of the money raised from the tournament will go directly to Reiser and his family, says Roy. The 22-year-old Reiser is a Demorest city firefighter who’s battling brain cancer. He was diagnosed with a high-grade glioma on June 21st.
Reiser used to work part-time at the Baldwin Fire Department and his fellow firefighters felt the need to help. Running a fishing tournament was the perfect fit.
“We all like bass fishing. We know a lot of people who like bass fishing, and I run a bass tournament every year for Relay for Life,” says Roy.
To register for the tournament or to donate items that can be raffled off on the day of the event, call Jacob Roy at 706-768-8503.
