The season ended sooner than they’d hoped, but still, three Northeast Georgia high school softball teams can be proud of the season they had.
Teams from Stephens, Union, and Banks counties made it to the Elite 8 in the state playoffs in Columbus last week. Banks reached the Final Four. Here’s how the teams fared:
CLASS 2A
Stephens County
The Lady Indians won 16-0 in the opener against Miller Grove, staying true to form with the explosive offense. They then took on #1 overall team and nationally-ranked Appling County on October 31, and lost 6-3 to get pushed to the bottom bracket. The Lady Indians took on Sonoraville on November 1 in a do-or-die, and fell 7-3 to end their season.
Union County
The Lady Panthers had a gritty 2-1 win over Sonoraville in the first game behind a 2-run bomb from Sloane Dyer, advancing to take on Morgan County on October 31. Morgan County won 11-1 to push the Lady Panthers to the loser’s bracket, where they took on Pike County on November 1. Pike won 4-0 to end Union’s season.
CLASS 1A DI
Banks County
The Lady Leopards squeaked by a tough Haralson County team, 9-7 in a slugfest of an opener. That put Banks County up against top-seeded Toombs County in the next one, slated for October 31. The Lady Leopards lost 8-2, putting Banks in the loser’s bracket against Social Circle on November 1. Banks won 3-2 over Social Circle to reach the Final 4, but lost 18-3 to Bremen to end the season.
