Banks Crossing boil water advisory lifted

The Commerce Water Department has lifted the boil water advisory it issued earlier this week for dozens of restaurants and businesses at Banks Crossing.

A water outage prompted the advisory and forced restaurants off I-85 in Commerce to close. The outage impacted businesses along a nearly mile-long stretch of GA 15/US 441 between Popeye’s north of the interchange to Quick Trip south of the interchange.

The water went out around 8:30 Wednesday morning, June 28. By early evening, utility crews had restored most of the service. Restaurants that experienced outages operated under a boil water advisory for 48 hours while tests were run to ensure the water was free of contamination.

Commerce Utilities Director Bill King says a valve shifted during the construction of the new median on GA 15/US 441, causing the outage. Crews flushed and chlorinated the lines and issued the advisory as a precaution.
