The Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a reported structure fire on Monday, Feb. 3., according to Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols.
Units were dispatched at 5:07 p.m. Monday afternoon to 181 Reuben Lord Road in Commerce. Upon arrival, units found a detached barn fully involved with fire. Firefighters checked a nearby residence to ensure the fire hadn’t spread to that structure. Firefighters extinguished a small woods fire near the barn.
The occupant of the residence was home at the time of the fire and was treated by emergency medical personnel and released on scene. No other injuries were reported.
According to Nichols, the barn was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department. However, a nearby burn pile could not be ruled out as the cause. “At this point, it appears to be an accidental fire,” Nichols said.
The incident was terminated at 5:23 p.m.
