What a whirlwind for Banks County football. One game into the 2025 season, and the head coach is out. The Leopards decided to relieve Todd Winter of his position during the Leopards’ BYE week.

Banks County had lost 42-21 in Week One to a high-flying East Hall Vikings team, particularly offensively. Still, the details are not known as to how things came to a head, but sources state there was dissension on the team that led to the decision.

Mark Hollars, who had been ousted from Commerce after last year taking the Tigers to the Quarterfinals and just one season removed from a region title, is now the Banks County interim head coach.

Hollars had latched on with the Leopards as their offensive coordinator, which was a great fit, seeing as the former Commerce offense in many ways was what Banks County was trying to do as well.

Banks County is 0-1 this season, and went just 2-8 last year in Winter’s first season. The Leopards haven’t made the playoffs since 2021 under coach Jay Reid, though that team advanced by default with a 2-7 record in a 5-team region. The last Leopards team to finish above .500 was the 2016 team led by coach Josh Shoemaker, as they won seven games and made the second round of state.

Winter holds a 92-55 overall record in 14 seasons, winning four region titles. Hollars, meanwhile, is 61-41 in nine seasons, winning a region title and making a pair of Quarterfinal runs.
