A Gillsville family was forced from their home Tuesday when a fire broke out during the night.
Shortly after 10 p.m. on July 11, Banks County Fire and Emergency Services units responded to a reported structure fire at 1175 Welborn Road.
When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family structure with smoke showing. The flames had extended to the kitchen and attic.
Jackson County Correctional Institute firefighters assisted Banks County in extinguishing the flames.
The residence sustained heavy damage, says Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols. The cause of the fire is under investigation
Authorities on the scene requested assistance for the displaced family members. Firefighters remained on the scene for nearly six hours.
