The City of Baldwin can look forward to the return of another much-loved tradition following the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown: their annual Christmas tree lighting.
Last year, the community tree lighting was canceled due to the pandemic’s threat. While the city did livestream the tree lighting via Facebook, the community aspect of an in-person lighting is a welcome return.
City of Baldwin Councilwoman Alice Venter says she’s excited to see the return of the in-person tree lighting, where the community can come together to enjoy the lights.
“It was depressing last year,” Venter said. “I think we are all exhausted and left feeling disconnected since COVID. [There’s] nothing better than a tree lighting to bring hope and togetherness.”
Baldwin citizens should mark their calendars for Friday, Dec. 3 for the tree lighting, set to take place in Baldwin’s Mitchell Gailey Park. The lighting will also showcase the Baldwin Elementary School fifth grade choir, who will perform holiday carols for the event.
