Family members say 33-year old Becky Rogers of Baldwin suffered two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and internal injuries when her truck was hit head on Wednesday morning near the Cottage House Restaurant on Highway 115 near Cleveland.
Charges are pending against a 16-year old Cleveland boy in connection with a five vehicle accident in White County that critically injured a woman. Trooper 1st Class Spencer Munger of the Gainesville State Patrol Post says 33-year old Rebecca “Becky” Rogers of Baldwin was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center following the crash Wednesday morning. As of mid-afternoon, she was listed in critical but stable condition.
Munger says the teen – whose name can not be released because he’s a juvenile – was traveling west on GA 115 when he fell asleep, crossed the center line, sideswiped a vehicle in the eastbound lane then hit Roger’s Ford Ranger head on. Her truck overturned on the south shoulder of the road. A third eastbound vehicle then hit the Tacoma and another slammed into it.
The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. at the height of the morning school rush hour. Trooper Munger says the at-fault driver was on his way to school when the accident occurred. He was injured in the wreck and was transported along with another driver – 39-year old Jennifer Jones of Carnesville – to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Jones suffered a broken foot.
The two other drivers, 24-year old Saul Fernandez of Baldwin and 31-year old Kimberly Hester of Cleveland, were not transported to the hospital. There were no passengers in any of the vehicles.
Trooper Munger says the teen driver who started the chain reaction wreck will be charged with failure to maintain lane and driving on the wrong side of the road. Other charges may be pending.
