Once sworn in, she will serve the remaining two years of former mayor Joe Elam’s four-year term, who resigned last February. She will be vacating the Post 3 council seat, leaving the council with four voting members. Acting Mayor Alice Venter will be stepping down from that position and resume her role as a council member.

Precision Digital public hearing

The City Council will hold a public hearing for Precision Digital who has applied for a special use permit and variance request.

Documents available on the city’s website state the special use permit and variance request are for the purpose of allowing Precision Digital to have a data center, a cryptocurrency mining operation, and high-performance computing. It also states in the variance request “Special Use to allow proposed business activity and to allow noise up to 100 decibels measured at the property line.”

Precision Digital applied for the special use permit/variance due to the ambiguity in the city’s current zoning ordinance. The city council has prepared an ordinance authorizing Precision Digital to operate as requested in the special use permit.
