The Baldwin City Council will address a funding request from the Habersham County Library System during its council meeting on Monday, along with announcements for a series of city-sponsored events set for May.
The library system, which operates branches in Cornelia and Clarkesville, is requesting $5,000 in financial assistance from the city. During the last council meeting, members expressed a need for additional information regarding the funding request for the system. Councilmembers also discussed the role of the Banks County Library, which provides a mobile library service to Baldwin residents during the summer months.
In addition to the library discussion, Police Chief Chris Jones is scheduled to present an updated report on the Baldwin Police Department’s operations.
The city has several community events planned for the coming weeks. Baldwin’s Public Safety Day is set for Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon. The free, family-friendly event will feature demonstrations and activities hosted by the city’s public safety departments.
Due to weather-related delays, the city’s outdoor screening of The Wild Robot has been rescheduled to Friday, May 2, at 8 p.m. A second outdoor movie night is scheduled for Friday, May 23, at 8 p.m., featuring Moana 2.
Both screenings are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available, with all proceeds benefiting the “Shop with a Hero” program. Both movies will be viewed at Theron Ayers Park (formerly Baldwin Farmers Market), located at 110 Airport Road in Baldwin.
The Baldwin City Council will meet on Monday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Baldwin Municipal Courtroom located at 155 Willingham Avenue in Baldwin.
