Baldwin residents will likely pay more for water and trash pickup this year. The city council is considering a resolution to raise the rates and will discuss it at their work session on Tuesday, July 9.

According to the Baldwin 2025 budget, it appears that the trash increase will only be a pass-through cost. FCS Sanitation, the contractor that handles trash collections in the city, raised their rate by approximately 9.9%. The city will raise its rates by approximately 9%, absorbing most of the increase.

The budget does not indicate how much water rates may be raised.

Highland Pointe speed bumps

Also, at Tuesday’s meeting, council members will discuss placing speed bumps in the Highland Pointe subdivision.

During the May 13 council meeting, a Highland Pointe resident requested the city place speed bumps in the neighborhood. Since then, that resident has gotten others to sign a petition supporting the installation of speed bumps to slow down drivers in the neighborhood.

The Baldwin City Council will discuss the matter during its work session.

Tuesday’s work session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Baldwin Municipal Courtroom at 155 Willingham Avenue in Baldwin.
