The Baldwin City Council will hold a special called meeting tonight to finalize an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Alto for fire services. The council is also considering a sewer use agreement for a new business located in the Industrial Park.
The called meeting, announced late Wednesday, will take place Thursday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom at 155 Willingham Avenue in Baldwin.
Fire services
Under the terms of the IGA, Baldwin will provide fire protection for the incorporated areas of Alto for two years at a rate of $125 per hour per call. Baldwin may reassess and recalculate the hourly rate for those services after two years.
Alto previously used Habersham County Emergency Services for its fire protection services but this year elected to contract with Baldwin.
“We signed with Baldwin because they are going to bill us per call only,” explains Alto’s Chief Financial Officer Lisa Turner. “Habersham wanted to continue to bill us per vehicle and per call as we have been paying them since we signed the original IGA with them.
Alto has already signed the agreement with Baldwin. Once Baldwin signs, it will become effective immediately.
ReveSolution
The Baldwin City Council will also consider a sewer use agreement for the waste disposal company ReveSolution, Inc. The council approved a special use permit for the company back in May.
The business will operate in the Industrial Park and lease the property from the city. If approved, the sewer use agreement will bring the business one step closer to becoming operational.
