The Baldwin City Council discussed the future of the city’s seasonal festivities at Thursday’s work session.

City Manager Tommie Perry began the introduction of the activities by recommending a date for the city’s Christmas tree lighting. Perry stated Baldwin is “trying to get it so all of the cities don’t do it on the same night.”

Currently, the council is considering holding the lighting on December 1, 2017, at 6:30 pm. Prior to the lighting, the city will offer hot chocolate to attendees.

Perry also discussed the seasonal end festivities at the city’s farmer’s market.

The final day of the market is Tuesday, October 31; however, the city will be planning a final Fall Festival on November 4.

The duration of the festival is still currently up for debate. Perry suggested running it from “9-3”; however, councilman Joe Elam considered that too long of a period since it’s the market’s first year. Elam had suggested a “9-1” time frame. Mayor Jerry Neace recommended “10-2”, but Elam advised he felt that was too late, and “the earlier, the better.”

No word yet on what activities will be held at the festival.

Baldwin City Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, September 11, during which they will review the first draft of two new re-zoning ordinances.
