State Reimburses Baldwin for Winter Storm Costs

Baldwin Fire Chief Joe Roy accepts check from GEMA Grant Specialist Supervisor, Valerie Grooms.

The City of Baldwin’s bottom line looks a bit better today after the State reimbursed the city for expenses incurred during this year’s winter storms. The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) awarded Baldwin a check for $25,246.30 on Tuesday. The funds were awarded through GEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

Baldwin Mayor Jerry Neace says the city spent more than it had budgeted for clean up last year and the reimbursement will “help us tremendously.” He explains, “We expended a lot of funds during the clean up with tree limbs, salt, the equipment used and overtime.”

Gathered for the check presentation were many city workers who were involved in the cleanup efforts, including members of Baldwin’s Police Department, Fire Department, city workers, the City Administrator and Mayor. Valerie Grooms, a Grant Specialist Supervisor with GEMA, awarded the check, which was accepted by Fire Chief Joe Roy.
