Baldwin’s water, sewer, and trash customers will see a rate increase on their bills next month. The Baldwin City Council approved the increases during its Monday, July 15 regular council meeting.

Water and sewer rates will increase by 3% and trash will increase by 9%. Baldwin’s Chief Administrative Officer, Emily Woodmaster, explained that the increase is needed due to population growth and the bond requirement to maintain the rate increase for water and sewer. The trash rate of 9% is due to an increase in the cost by FC Sanitation.

Speed bumps approved

The Baldwin City Council approved the purchase and installation of two sets of speed bumps for the Highland Pointe subdivision. The speed bumps are the result of residents filing a petition with the city to install the speed bumps, according to Woodmaster.

The council approved the purchase of the speed bumps not to exceed $2,000, using public safety funds, as recommended by Woodmaster. Once they are received, each set will be placed in the straightaways on Highland Pointe Drive.
