It’s back-to-school time in Georgia. To help students and parents prepare, several Habersham County churches are throwing special communitywide events Sunday.
For the second year in a row, Hollywood Baptist Church in Clarkesville is hosting Hollywood Cares. The church will provide free haircuts and a free bag of school supplies to every family that attends.
The evening kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, and ends at 6:30 p.m. There will be free food, inflatables, and fire trucks for the kids (and parents) to enjoy. The church is located at 208 Hollywood Church Road in Clarkesville.
First Baptist Church of Cornelia and Cornelia United Methodist Church are partnering on a similar event at the same time on Sunday. Their Back-to-School Block Party will include food trucks, free haircuts, snack bags, and more, organizers say.
The block party will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31. It will be held in the back parking lot of First Baptist Church of Cornelia at 325 Oak Street.
These events are timed as Northeast Georgia area students enjoy their last few days of summer. Most students return to class next week, some have already started. Jackson County students returned to class on July 29; that’s the earliest public school opening day this year in Northeast Georgia.
Union County has the latest start date for students – August 12. Other area county schools open as follows:
August 1: Elbert, Hart, Madison, Stephens
August 3: Athens-Clarke, Banks, Oconee
August 4: Towns
August 5: Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Rabun, White
