Concerns over the coronavirus COVID-19 prompted the cancellation of one of Northeast Georgia’s largest Easter events. BabyLand General Hospital in Cleveland announced it is canceling this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza. The event was scheduled to be held April 4.
The popular tourist destination and “birthplace” of the Cabbage Patch Kids said it made the decision “in an abundance of caution due to the potential Coronavirus (COVID-19) threat.” Management also canceled BabyLand’s annual Breakfast with the Easter Bunny, according to a notice on the business’ website.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and vendors,” the notice states.
The business will instead host an extended Easter season celebration Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday, April 11. Kids under the age of 10 who visit BabyLand General Hospital during this time will receive a bag of filled plastic eggs. Some of the eggs will have coupons from local businesses in them. The eggs will be distributed as long as supplies last.
Visitors that week also will be eligible to enter a drawing for free daily prizes and a grand prize handstitched one-of-a-kind Original Cabbage Patch Little Person valued at $265.
BabyLand announced the cancellation on the same day Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s office announced there are five more suspected cases of coronavirus COVID-19 in Georgia. So far, a total of six COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the state.
The business closed out its cancellation notice by saying, “Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to resuming our regular Eggstravaganza egg hunt in 2021!”
