Five people, including four inmates, face drug charges stemming from investigation into Robert Mosely’s death
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today on a Habersham County jail inmate who died while in custody. 38-year-old Robert Mosely of Highlands, North Carolina, suffered a medical emergency Sunday. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he later died.
Death investigation leads to drug charges
Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate Mosely’s death.
“During the investigation agents established that Mosely utilized methamphetamine Sunday morning prior to his medical emergency,” a news release from the GBI states. “A search of the jail was conducted and methamphetamine was recovered. The investigation revealed that both inmates and persons outside the jail were responsible for the methamphetamine being brought into the jail.”
Five people are charged in connection with the investigation.
The GBI says 33-year-old Krystal Chastain of Clarkesville was arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and crossing a guard line with drugs.
The four other suspects are inmates at the jail.
38-year-old Daniel Campbell is charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. 44-year-old Christopher Kinney, 38-year-old Jason Mealor, and 32-year-old Billy James Webb, all of Clarkesville, are charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drugs by an inmate.
The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur is conducting the autopsy.
The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office assisted GBI Cleveland with the investigation and was instrumental in the outcome of the investigation, the release states.
Officials say additional charges are pending.
