Autopsy returned in death of man whose body was found in Lake Lanier

The Hall County Sheriff's Office circulated this image of Terry Daugherty in the BOLO issued hours before his body was found.

Officials have determined the cause of death of an Atlanta man whose body was found alongside a dock in Lake Lanier in late May.

According to autopsy results from the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, Terry Daugherty drowned.

Toxicology test results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are still pending in the case, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Daugherty, 57, was last seen by a friend late on the evening of May 22 on a dock at Sunrise Cove Marina. When his neighbors awoke the next morning, they could not find him, sheriff’s officials reported at the time.

On May 23, after a day-long search, game wardens with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources located his body using side scan sonar. Daugherty was found alongside the dock close to where his boat was moored.
