In efforts against the trade of illegal narcotics, large quantities of cash and drugs were seized in Habersham on the night of Wednesday, Feb. 12, after an extensive investigation.
According to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, a Hall County man was arrested during a traffic stop as a large sum of methamphetamine and thousands of dollars in currency was confiscated Wednesday.
Police say Jerald Dwayne Sanders, 55, of Flowery Branch, was taken into custody early Thursday and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, failure to obey a stop sign, taillights/taillight lenses required, driving under the influence and driving while license suspended.
Sanders allegedly traveled to Habersham County with a quantity of methamphetamine intended for distribution, and authorities believe he had been supplying large amounts of meth in Habersham and surrounding counties.
After his arrest, Sanders was allegedly found in possession of two ounces of methamphetamine and several thousand dollars in cash. Police described his operation as “more than a mid-level” dealer.
The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, including its Narcotics Division and Special Operations Unit.
Authorities continue to investigate the extent of Sanders’ drug distribution network. He remains in custody as the legal process moves forward.
