Many folks around Habersham may only know Wallace (Wally) R. Wenn from the Once Upon A Time, Co. store in downtown Clarkesville, which was home base from 1985 to 2021. But there is more to be said, beginning with Wallace’s petite wife of 52 years, Dellie, who watched the shop and their two daughters while her husband hunted and restored antiques. Before coming to North Georgia, Wallace attended grad school and worked with newspapers in Southern California. Prior to that, he was an education director in Minneapolis, and that was after serving his enlistment in the Navy as a journalist, stationed primarily in the Western Pacific and off North Vietnam. Growing up in Oregon and Ohio, he was always fascinated by stories of nature and history – a self-admitted museum junkie. Now a semi-retired grandfather, he can turn his attention to the stories around northeast Georgia, telling tales of “great interest and little importance.” Reach out to him at
