Mitzi Oxford

Mitzi spent 20 years forecasting weather and reporting for television stations in Cincinnati, Nashville, and Columbus, GA. Following her career in broadcasting, she worked for 15 years with the American Red Cross and a rescue mission as a Major Gift Officer, overseeing fundraising, public relations, and marketing. Mitzi served as Chairman of the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities in Columbus, Georgia for many years where she helped establish adaptive sports in the Muscogee County School District. Her work in the disabled community earned her the Dr. Jack Hughston Humanitarian Award and recognition from the Columbus Consolidated Government as one of the most influential women in Columbus. She was also presented the Aspire Award from the state of Georgia for her work on behalf of people with disabilities. Mitzi has also won national awards for documentaries and publications produced for nonprofits. Her husband Robert works for Publix as an Apron’s specialist and trains other store chefs in West Georgia and East Alabama. Their son Robert, a double amputee since the age of five earned a degree in film from GSU and is “the wind beneath my wings.” She loves cooking, entertaining family and friends, her German Shepherd Bella, listening to jazz, and gardening. As a cancer survivor, Mitzi lives to seize every minute of every day and inspires others to do the same.
