A packed house enjoyed memory-laden tunes of childhood as the Mountain Voices Community Chorus performed “The Music of Disney.”
Conducted by Emily Allison and accompanied by Alyssa Sellers, Friday night’s performance at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville evoked chuckles and smiles as the singers performed Disney songs spanning the decades. A moving rendition of “God Help the Outcasts” from the Hunchback of Notre Dame even evoked a tear or two. It featured soloist Karen Williams.
Other soloists for the evening included Alan Hewell, Donna James, Nathan Luders, Madisen Hewell, Stefanie Couch, and Ben Rikeman.
The concert opened with “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast. It included fan favorites such as “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” from Frozen and “Cruella de Vil” from 101 Dalmatians.
Madisen Hewell, a rising 10th grader from Lula, assisted Allison in selecting the songs for the program. She conducted the Foothills Children’s Choir during one of their performances.
The singers captured the fun-loving spirit of the evening with the costumes they wore. They received a standing ovation at the end of their near hour-long performance.
Mountain Voices is made up of singers from all over Northeast Georgia. All ages, from kindergarten on up, are welcome to participate.
The choir’s next performance will be on November 9th. Rehearsals begin September 4th. If you’d like to be a part of it, email Donna James at [email protected] or Emily Allison at [email protected]. You may also contact them through the group’s Facebook page Mountain Voices Community Chorus.
