Atlanta man killed in wreck with tractor-trailer on GA 365

A truck driver from Atlanta died early Wednesday when his vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer on GA 365 in Hall County.

The wreck happened around 3:47 a.m. in the northbound lanes near White Sulphur Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol’s preliminary report, the large box truck was traveling north, approaching a tractor-trailer stopped at the red light.

“The driver of the box truck swerved to the right to avoid striking the tractor trailer but was unable to avoid the collision,” the report states.

The box truck struck the right rear area of the trailer with its front end.

The box truck driver, Fidell Deshun Lightfoot, 43, of Atlanta, was ejected in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

The state patrol report says troopers were unable to determine whether Lightfoot was wearing a seatbelt due to the extent of the damage. They say impairment is not suspected.

The pre-dawn crash blocked the northbound lanes of the highway for nearly three hours, reopening shortly before 6 a.m. Traffic was detoured as crews cleared the wreckage and state troopers investigated the scene.
