Starting this month, Athens-Clarke County residents may see an increase on one of their bills—the stormwater utility fee.

On average, Athens-Clarke County property owners will see an increase of $14 on their stormwater utility fee, the first time this fee has risen since 2005. Collected fees are exclusively used on stormwater programs around the county, like replacing and repairing culverts. The stormwater utility fee applies to both taxable and tax-exempt properties.

The county’s Stormwater Advisory Committee approved the price hike last summer. The committee says a more sustainable pool of funds is needed to replace and repair infrastructure.

To help mitigate stormwater issues, the county also provides single-family residences with erosion control assistance. Residents can also receive help clearing stormwater pipes under driveways and within the Athens-Clarke County right-of-way.

More billing information is available at the ACC Stormwater Management Program.
