Athens-Clarke police charge teen in string of auto break-ins

Athens-Clarke County police are reminding residents and visitors to the Classic City to lock their car doors after a string of recent auto break-ins.

Police say on August 6, they responded to reports of several broken car windows and vehicles being entered into at 500 College Avenue.

“Multiple vehicles had been damaged and various items, including firearms, were removed from the vehicles,” says Athens-Clarke County Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Jody Thompson.

Officers reviewed the surveillance footage and located one of the suspects later in the day.

Police arrested Drake Grant, 17, of Athens. They charged Grant with five counts of entering auto. A second suspect is currently being sought in connection with these crimes, Thompson says.

Police urge people not to leave valuables unattended in their vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Franco at 762-400-7100 or [email protected].
