A Gainesville man was among sixteen people who died on Georgia’s roads over the long Independence Day weekend.
Robert Jones, 55, was fatally injured when he crashed his 2012 Harley Davidson on GA 136 near Will Wallace Road in Hall County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Jones was traveling east on the highway around 5 p.m. Sunday when his motorcycle ran off the road and struck a ditch. The impact caused the motorcycle to overturn multiple times, ejecting Jones.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety says fatal accidents were also reported over the weekend in Northeast Georgia’s Hart and Madison counties. Traffic crashes also claimed lives in Atlanta, Albany, Fulton, Hinesville, and Waycross, as well as Brunswick, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Forsyth, and Washington counties.
Last year, thirteen people died in traffic crashes on Georgia’s roads during the July Fourth holiday.
The holiday travel period ended at midnight.
The 4th may be over, but a lot of traveling is still happening. Plan your route, buckle up and pack your patience. #ArriveAliveGA #gsp #gatrooper pic.twitter.com/AUKeKe4We2
