Artist to begin work on downtown Clarkesville mural

This is where the mural will go - on the side of the John Kollock building facing the old county courthouse. A final rendering of the mural is not yet complete.

A 385 square foot mural will soon appear on the side of a prominent building in downtown Clarkesville.

Mural artist John Christian will begin work on May 18th on the mural located on the north wall of the Kollock building, facing the Clarkesville gazebo.  Part of the Go Georgia Arts Mural Trail tourism initiative, the mural will depict a scenic and pastoral view of Clarkesville as it transitions through the four seasons.

Portions of the mural will be painted during the Mountain Laurel Festival on Saturday, May 20th, and the public is invited to come and watch its progress.

The mural will be complete by early June. It is funded in part by a Vibrant Communities Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, as well as Clarkesville Main Street and the Clarkesville Business & Community Association.  Christian, an artist with Go Georgia Arts was selected as the muralist by a committee of local business owners and members of the community.

Once completed, Clarkesville will be the tenth downtown to join the Go Georgia Arts Mural Trail joining other towns like Washington, Blue Ridge and Hapeville.
