A “person of interest” is in custody in connection with an armed robbery at a credit union in Homer. The Habersham Federal Credit Union on Evans Street was robbed Thursday. The Banks County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect fled on foot before deputies arrived.
Officers and K9 units from Banks and Hall Counties and Lee Arrendale Prison searched for the suspect in a wooded area near Evans Street. The manhunt put the neighborhood on high alert. Law enforcement notified residents in the area and businesses and schools were asked to go on lockdown.
The robbery suspect is identified as a white male, approximately 5’9″-5’10” tall, weighing 180-200 lbs. He was last seen wearing green gym shorts and a sleeveless dark t-shirt.
Authorities have not yet said whether the robber is the one in custody. They say the investigation continues.
