A Habersham County teenager is in jail following an attempted robbery and shooting in Cornelia that happened late Sunday night.
The Cornelia Police Department issued a press release saying officers were dispatched around 10:55 p.m. on April 17 to an attempted robbery that resulted in one person being shot. The incident occurred on Chattahoochee Street in the area of the Cornelia Library and Cornelia Skate Park.
17-year old Tavaccea Davis was arrested in relation to the incident. Sources tell Now Habersham Davis is a former Habersham Central High School student who transferred in from Stephens County at the start of this school year then left.
He’s being held at the Habersham County Detention Center without bond.
Officials say the shooting victim is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Police have not released his name but family members identify him as Austin Wilbanks. He reportedly was shot twice and underwent surgery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Police say they’re not releasing any more information at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
