Habersham and White Counties are among a host of area school systems preparing to launch their free summer lunch programs.
Habersham County Seamless Summer Program
Habersham Feed-a-Friend serves children 18 years old and under. The program is funded through the USDA’s Seamless Summer Program and is run by the county’s school nutrition department.
School Nutrition Director Andrea Thomas says meals will be served four days a week – Monday through Thursday – at four different locations beginning June 5.
The locations are:
- Meadowbrook Community Center, 830 West Airport Road, Baldwin in the community room next to the laundromat from 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
- Cornelia Elementary School, 375 Old Cleveland Road, Cornelia in the school cafeteria 12:30 p.m.-1 p.m.
- Cornelia Public Library, 301 N Main Street, Cornelia 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
- Whispering Woods Mobile Home Park/Garden Gate Apartments in Coin Laundry, 230 Wayside Street, Cornelia 11:05 a.m.-11:35 a.m.
Habersham’s Feed-a-Friend program ends July 27.
White County Summer Feeding Program
A similar program begins Monday in White County. Meals will be provided to children in low-income areas through the USDA Summer Feeding Program. It will operate at 22 different sites around the county.
The program ends July 28.
