No injuries but plenty of damage is being reported in White County after days of heavy rain that caused flooding and mudslides.
The White County Emergency Management Agency, Public Works Department and the County Manager have completed a preliminary damage assessment.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy says no injuries have been reported at this time and there have been no requests for individual assistance. Officials observed damage to vehicles and buildings around the river in Helen. There was also flood damage to some buildings at Air Stream park on GA 75 North.
Murphy tells WRWH that White County 9-1-1 dispatch continues to receive reports of roadways flooded or impassible due to rainfall over the last 24 hours. According to Murphy, the list of White County roadways that are currently closed includes: Sandy Flats Road between Gene Nix Rd and Silver Falls Rd, Bottoms Road off GA Hwy 17, and Roy Powers Road at the bridge.
Some of the county roadways that are damaged but passable with caution include; Bean Creek Road off GA Hwy 356, Carolina Springs Road off Helen Hwy, and Chastain Road.
Trey Mountain Road north of Rice Cabin Falls is closed unless you have 4WD capable vehicle.
Due to the damage on GA State Route 75 north of Helen between Robertstown and Unicoi Gap, a detour was set up by the Georgia Department of Transportation Wednesday around 9 a.m. The road reopened Wednesday at 11 p.m.
EMA and county officials will continue to monitor current situation and additional rainfall over the next 24 hours.
