State and local law enforcement have cleared the scene in North Rabun County where a commercial vehicle hauling blasting material overturned early Tuesday. As a precaution, officials evacuated a quarter-mile area around the accident site on Kelly’s Creek Road near the Vulcan Materials Company in Rabun Gap.
A caller phoned in the accident to Rabun County 911 around 6:37 Tuesday morning, August 9.
“Upon arrival to the scene, crews reported a commercial vehicle containing blasting material and agents had overturned on its side. No injuries were sustained in the accident. No immediate threat was detected,” says Rabun County Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Panell.
Director Panell says officials ordered the evacuation “in an abundance of caution.” They closed Kelly’s Creek Road from around York House Road to the entrance of Vulcan Materials. The road reopened around 12:50 p.m.
