White County officials report another successful tire recycling event.

This past Saturday, White County residents were asked to drop off their old tires at the county road department during Tire Amnesty Day.

White County Road Department spokesperson Rolann Smith said during the event 743 tires were turned in. That included 683 passenger tires, 44 truck tires, and 16 large off-road tires.

The event was declared a success even though the amount of tires turned in was just shy of the amount collected last year.

“These tires will be transported to a recycling facility that will convert them back into raw materials that will be used to produce other goods,” said White County Public Works Director Derick Canupp.

Some of the types of products made with recycled tires are molded rubber goods, flooring, rubberized asphalt, athletic surfaces, and landscape mulch.
