The U.S. Forest Service continues its gradual reopening of outdoor recreation areas and camping sites.
The federal agency announced this week it has reopened Anna Ruby Falls near Unicoi State Park in White County. The popular tourist attraction is operating on a limited schedule with limited access.
Anna Ruby Falls is now open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Only forty vehicles will be allowed in the parking lot at a given time. Once that number is reached, cars will be turned around at the gate until the number in the parking lot decreases.
Forest Service officials say Brasstown Bald may open soon once routine maintenance issues can be addressed. Trails and the observation deck are currently open.
Trailheads and trails that provide access to the Appalachian Trail in Georgia are back open along with a number of area recreation sites including Lake Russell and Panther Creek in Habersham; Dukes Creek Falls in White County; Minnehaha Falls trail and trailhead in Rabun County; and DeSoto Falls in Lumpkin County.
