(Cleveland)- There were a lot of people who stepped forward and did something extra following Tropical Storm Irma back on September 11th. Among those were members of the White County School staff. During last week’s board of education meeting, one of those special people was recognized for going beyond her job description.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett shared with the board how Mossy Creek Elementary School Principal Jennifer King made a big difference in the lives of her students who were, in many cases, without power and food.
Burkett said on Wednesday after the storm she went to the school and assisted King in delivering 144 brown bag meals to Mossy Creek students who, if they had been in school, would have received free breakfast and lunch meals.
…when they pulled up to the homes the kids would come running out calling principal King’s name and welcoming the food.
Burkett said they went to places no one should have to live to deliver those meals. She said when they pulled up to the homes the kids would come running out calling principal King’s name and welcoming the food. It took 3 hours for them to make the deliveries.
During the board meeting, King was presented with a special ” Service above Self” certificate. Many of King’s teachers and staff members were on hand for the recognition.
Dr. Burkett said, “We had several staff members step up and do some really great things; Abby Roland, Nutrition Director, her staff and Middle and High School administrators really did a lot.”
