On Saturday, May 21, 2016 more than 1,000 yellow rubber ducks floated down the Soque River in a race to raise money for literacy. Each duck was ‘adopted’ for $5 and the first three to finish won cash prizes for their adopted owners.
This year’s winners are: Eloise Thompson – 1st place winner of $500; Marcia Lloyd – 2nd place winner of $300; and Christy Gosnell – 3rd place winner of a $200 prize.
VFL Coordinator Phylecia Wilson says the event raised over $10,000 through ticket sales and sponsorships. The money will be used to support a variety of literacy programs serving Habersham County residents of all ages including One Book Habersham, The Dictionary Project, GED scholarships, English as a Second Language and Little Free Libraries.
