Piedmont’s Alvin Jacobs will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
Jacobs will compete in the 800m after finishing the season 12th overall with a school-record time of 1:51.55. The top 20 in the nation qualify for the championships.
Jacobs was promoted to the 10th seed as two runners ahead of him did not declare for the championships.
The Buford, Ga. native leads the South/Southeast Region in the 800m after setting his time in the Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens, Ga.
This will mark the second NCAA appearance this season and first outdoor appearance in the NCAA Championships for Piedmont. During the indoor season, junior Julia Graham qualified in the 60m hurdles.
Last season, Jacobd took home All-Region honors in both the indoor and outdoor season in the 800m.
The preliminaries will be run on Friday, May 24, at 4:00 p.m. while the finals are Saturday at 1:50 p.m.
The University of Mount Union, in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, will host the championships at the Spire Institute.
