A Clermont man is charged with DUI and first-degree vehicular homicide in connection with a Sunday wreck that left an Alto teenager dead.
It happened around 11:45 pm on Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway.
22-year old Colby Oliver is charged in the death of 19-year old Jimmy Tackett. State Troopers say Tackett was riding in the backseat of a car driven by Oliver when the car suddenly left the roadway, ran into a yard, hit a tree and parked car. Tackett died at the scene.
Oliver suffered injuries to his right arm. A second passenger, 23-year old Joshua Thomas of Alto, suffered chest injuries. They were both transported by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.
Oliver is also charged with reckless driving, serious injury by motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane.
The accident remains under investigation.
