A suspect who was the focus of an intense afternoon manhunt Friday is now in custody. 43-year old Alton Lee Davidson of Alto is charged with two counts of kidnapping and aggravated assault in Banks County and false imprisonment in Habersham.
Banks County Sheriff’s Lt. Carissa McFadden says officers with the Department of Natural Resources spotted Davidson chasing a female in the Wilson Shoals Wildlife Management Area. When they stopped to check on them, Davidson fled.
“Further investigation found that there were actually two female subjects on scene who had been involved in a violent domestic situation with this male suspect which had originally occurred in Habersham County,” says McFadden.
DNR requested backup and a multi-agency manhunt was launched around 2 p.m. Friday. Deputies from Banks, Habersham and Hall County Sheriff’s Offices along with Alto Police, Georgia State Patrol Aviation and K-9 units from DNR and Lee Arrendale State Prison participated in the search.
They set up a perimeter in the area of Grant Mill Road and Yonah Homer Road. Davidson was arrested nearly four hours later in a wooded area in the search perimeter.
Davidson has a history of alleged criminal activity. McFadden says he was previously booked in Banks County on charges of aggravated assault, burglary, cruelty to children and terroristic threats. There was also an outstanding warrant on him in Franklin County for aggravated assault on a police officer.
