Alleged heroin dealer busted with baby at home

Packets of heroin officers allegedly found during a drug bust in Towns County.

Two people are in jail following a heroin bust in Towns County. Special Agent Mitchell Posey of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office says 42-year old Christine Kennard and 38-year Mathew Marvin were arrested following a month-long investigation. Posey says the investigation revealed the pair were allegedly selling heroin and marijuana from their home at 4470 Chipmunk Drive.

When officers with ARDEO and the Towns County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant on the residence they found Kennard inside with an infant. Posey says officers also found a sizeable amount of heroin in the home. “Two grams of heroin is a lot of this type of narcotic,” he says. “In the State of Georgia, 4 grams of heroin is defined as trafficking.” He says the drugs had a street value of $800.

Kennard was arrested at her residence. Marvin was arrested at work. Both are charged with distribution of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. They’re being held in the Towns County Detention Center.

These latest arrests bring to at least sixteen the number of drug suspects ARDEO and local law enforcement have arrested in northeast Georgia since late February.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s Offices: White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Habersham County, Stephens County, and Rabun County, along with the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
