Five days after severe weather swept through northern Georgia, Haberesham EMC has fully restored electrical service to its members. The HEMC outage map Thursday morning showed no outages within the power company’s six-county service area.
White County was the hardest hit area and had the most and longest-lasting outages due to the extent of the damage. Straight line winds and heavy rain toppled trees, broke utility poles, and pulled down miles of power lines across Northeast Georgia.
According to an updated report from HEMC, at least 66 power poles had to be replaced. Crews cleared an unknown number of trees from power lines and repaired broken lines.
Contractors and partner EMCs from around Georgia and South Carolina helped with the restoration efforts. HEMC says they worked non-stop, 24 hours a day, to restore power.
The local electric cooperative expressed gratitude to members for their “patience and understanding.”
