Mr. Albert Franklin Taylor Sr, age 84 of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, September 8, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00pm, Friday, September 11, 2015 at Loudsville United Methodist Church Campground with Dr. Bill Coates officiating. Interment will be be private.
Mr. Taylor was born in Cherokee County on February 9, 1931 to the late Bill Taylor and Viola Shinall Taylor. He served in the United States Army, being stationed in Germany. Mr. Taylor graduated from Cleveland High School and later from Truett McConnell College where he earned his Associate Degree, in addition he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Piedmont College and Master Six Leadership Degree from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Taylor knew the importance of a good education in building a strong foundation for young people. His career in education spanned over many years beginning with the White County School System where he was a teacher and counselor, later he would serve and Dean of Students at Truett McConnell College. Mr. Taylor served the Hall County School System as principal of River Bend Elementary School and McEver Elementary School as well as the positions of Transportation Director and Comptroller. He later retired as Superintendent for the White County School System. He was the founder of Hallco Community Credit Union and an active member of the Gideons and the Chattahoochee Upper Soil Conservation Service as well the Retired Educators of White County, the White County Library Board and was a lifetime member of the White County Historical Society in addition, Mr. Taylor prepared incomes taxes for some 53 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, always active he loved to garden, raise cattle and enjoyed pottery and chair caning.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor is preceded in death by his son, Albert Franklin “Bert” Taylor Jr., his mother and father in law, Garnett and Irene Gilleland and niece Patricia Pardue.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Martha Jean Gilleland Taylor, Cleveland; daughter Tami Taylor and husband, Daryl Dunkle of Gainesville; grandchildren, Taylor Coleman of Cleveland and Anslee and Mitch Wilson of Gainesville ;great grandchildren, Ella Wilson and Miller Wilson sister, Margaret Dorsey Smith of Cleveland; other family members include, Mary Lou and Phil Jackson and his “adopted children” Gerald and Shelby Hendrix of Cleveland; nieces and nephews include Jeannie and Truet Helton, Sherrill and Doug Dockery, Pam and Danny Irvin, Lynn and Tony Hogan, Cindy and Marty Knight, Billy and Karen Taylor, , Cliffy Taylor, Debbie and Jerrell Dockery, Vickie and Terry Lunsford, Patty and Kevin Rose, Jeffery and maria Taylor, Bradley and Julie Taylor,Ricky and Becky Taylor, Jerry and Janet Taylor and Penny and Clay Watson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m.
Flowers will be acknowledged, however it is requested that memorial donations be made to the Albert F. Taylor Educational Scholarship Fund, ℅ United Community Bank, Cleveland, Georgia 30528.
