Adopt-A-Pet: Happily home

Every time an animal is adopted from the Habersham County Animal Shelter and brought into a loving home, that animal not only gets a chance at a happy life, but they also fill the hearts of those around them. The adoptions the Northeast Georgia community have made possible mean the world to the animals that get a second chance, and in turn, those animals are making their humans’ lives a little more wonderful.

Now Habersham is honored to have helped some of those animals find their fur-ever homes, and we hope that we continue to help these adoptable animals find the families they were always meant to be part of.

Today, we’re following up with two former resident cats at the shelter, Erwin and Tootles, who have found their fur-ever homes.

Erwin: finally comfortable

Erwin was the first animal adopted from Now Habersham’s Adopt-A-Pet series, meeting his family only a day after sharing his story. He’s taken his family’s last name, Mote, and loves to write to the Habersham County Animal Care and Control staff to check in.

“Just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying my new home,” Erwin wrote HCACC in December. “I finally found my spot on the couch that I had always dreamed of.”

Erwin was found as a stray with an injured paw on Erwin Road in Cornelia and had been waiting to find his forever home since July 2021, before his adoption in October.

“I am grateful to all the wonderful people at the shelter who took care of me and helped me find a forever home,” he went on to say. “I have gained two pounds and am doing very well.”

Tootles: feeling the love

Tootles lived on the streets of Habersham before being united with the person that would change his life, and much like Erwin, can’t imagine ever going back to living outside.

Tootles found his happy place in the arms of his favorite human, Jaden Palazesi. Now living his best life in the Atlanta area and going by his new city cat name, “Dishie,” he’s the happiest he’s ever been.

“I love my person, I love my life, and I love knowing I’ll never spend another day feeling lonely,” he says.

Dishie spends his days napping and cuddling with Palazesi, enjoying his fashionable assortment of bowties and watching his person play Animal Crossing.

“Knowing I’m home forever is the best feeling in the world,” he says. “I’m surrounded by love and comfort every day— what more could I ask for?”

Dishie, formerly known as “Tootles,” was a stray cat brought into the shelter by concerned locals last year. (HCACC)
