After several weeks of severe overcrowding, the hard work of the Habersham County Animal Shelter’s staff and the kindness of rescuers, adopters and volunteers has started to pay off. There are currently 73 cats and kittens in the shelter— down almost 100 from late October. But there are still plenty of animals that need good, loving homes.
With the adoption fees of cats and kittens slashed down to less than a quarter of their usual price, and cold temperatures setting in, now is a perfect time to bring a new furry friend into your home.
This week, we’re highlighting two adoptable animals, Cyclops the kitten and Kylo the dog, with unique eyes and adorable faces.
Meet Cyclops
Meet Mac-n-Cheese, better known as Cyclops, a 9-week-old one-eyed tabby who is ready to find her fur-ever home.
“I only have one eye, but that doesn’t make me any less of a cuddle bug,” Cyclops says. “I love to be picked up and snuggled, and being in a home this winter sounds so cozy.”
Cyclops, who was found stray and sick, is very affectionate and loves to be warm and toasty. She also loves to play, especially with wand toys that jingle.
“I’m just like any other kitten, soft, cute, snuggly and I love toys with feathers,” she says. “I would be a perfect addition to anyone’s home, and I can’t wait to meet my forever family.”
Meet Kylo
Meet Kylo, a 10-month-old Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. He was surrendered to the shelter at the end of October and has been hoping he’ll find someone to love him ever since. His mismatched eyes make him unique, but his sweet demeanor makes him perfect.
“I might be a little different looking, but I think my differences make me special,” he says. “I heard someone say that I was a ‘sweet boy,’ and that I was ‘so cute,’ and for a while, I didn’t believe them. But now that so many people have shown me love, I think they might be right.”
Kylo loves to chase a ball, chew toys, and loves treats and attention. This polite puppy loves humans and, like all the dogs at HCACC, has been socialized to be around other dogs.
“Shelter life isn’t for me,” he says. “I’m ready to find a home where I can play football in the yard on Thanksgiving with my family, or look forward to falling asleep with a full belly next to my favorite human.”
