Active manhunt ends in Mt. Airy

An active manhunt is over in Mt. Airy after law enforcement spent several hours Tuesday night searching for a subject on outstanding warrants.

SFC Chad Johnson with the Georgia State Patrol says his officers were assisting U.S. Marshals and Habersham County in the search. He says the subject is “not believed to be in the area anymore.”

The subject’s name and information on why they’re being sought have not been released. Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Floyd Canup says it’s a U.S. Marshal’s Service case. Requests for information have been deferred to the USMS.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing officers in the area of Dick’s Hill Parkway and the Tom Arrendale Interchange shortly after 8 p.m. The State Patrol pulled out of the search around 10 p.m. This video shows a helicopter and Georgia State Patrol unit assisting in the search.
