From October 31 to November 3, the University of North Georgia will display The Wall that Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, along with a mobile Education Center. This beautiful Memorial Wall remembers more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War.

Not many people ever have the incredible experience of going to Washington, D.C. to see the actual Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall. This is an opportunity for the community to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers and learn about the Vietnam War’s history.

Sandra Cantrell, President of the Clermont Historical Society in Clermont, GA, grew up in Washington, D.C. “I had the chance growing up to see firsthand so many beautiful monuments that most people never get to see. This is such a wonderful way to honor our veterans.”

The replica is constructed of Avonite, a synthetic granite supported by 140 aluminum frames. Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals gives visitors the ability to do name rubbings of individual service members whose names are embossed on The Wall.

There is no charge to visit The Wall That Heals and visitors do not need to obtain any type of ticket to view it.

The Wall that Heals is 375 feet long and bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

The Clermont Historical Society will be carpooling on Friday, November 1, leaving at 11 a.m. and meeting at the Clermont DIP Library, located at 639 Main Street, Clermont, GA. If you are interested in enjoying the ride, please call Sandra at 678-300-5206. “We will view the Wall at 2 p.m. and also grab some lunch. It will be a very memorable day.”
