Two women are in the Habersham County jail charged in connection with this week’s burglary of a local restaurant. Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett says 21-year old Francesca Craig of Banks County and 21-year old Kimberly Brooke Shedd of Habersham were arrested late Thursday and charged with burglarizing Yakimono Express at 487 Washington Street Monday night.
Barrett says the two confessed to the crime.
He says officers used surveillance video from the Huddle House restaurant next door to Yakimono to find the suspects. The footage showed Shedd inside Huddle House ordering coffee the night of the burglary. Witnesses reported she appeared nervous. Shedd left the restaurant in a white four-door sedan with what witnesses believed was a man. That male suspect turned out to be Craig. Barrett says one of his officers recognized Shedd from the surveillance video. “We were able to track down one of them and then the other,” he says. Barrett says Shedd is a former employee of Yakimono Express.
Barrett says the burglary happened in two phases. The two suspects allegedly broke into Yakimono around 9 p.m. Monday and “busted out” a back door. Barrett says they got scared and fled when a delivery truck driver entered the parking lot. He says they then returned an hour and a half later to finish the job.
Craig and Shedd allegedly caused around $1,000 of damage to the business and told police they stole $800 in cash. The business owners reported $3,300 was stolen. Barrett says none of the stolen money has been recovered and adds, according to Craig, the money was spent on liquor.
Barrett says he’s uncertain how and when the question of exactly how much money was stolen will be reconciled.
Craig and Shedd are both charged with burglary. They’re being held in the Habersham County Detention Center.
