Demorest, GA – Piedmont College Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach Jeff Jenkins has released a 2015 spring schedule for track & field with three indoor and five outdoor events planned for the unofficial start of the program at PC. Though Piedmont does not yet meet official sport sponsorship at this time to have the program be officially added to the school’s listing of intercollegiate sports, the Lions and Lady Lions will compete in eight total events as a step towards adding men’s and women’s track & field as the 16th and 17th sports offered at PC.
The men’s and women’s teams will all be traveling to the same meets and begin the season on January 25 as they head to the Crossplex Invitational hosted by Emory in Birmingham, Alabama. The Birmingham Crossplex is a world-class facility featuring Mondotrack surface and is one of only four such facilities in the United States and one of six worldwide.
The remaining indoor meets will both be in Sewanee, Tennessee with the Sewanee Tigers playing host to the events. The Sewanee Tiger Indoor Invitational will be on February 14 and the Sewanee Indoor Invitational will be held two weeks later on February 28.
Both events will be held in the Fowler Center 160m indoor track and field facility. This center features 4 flat lanes on the oval and 6 lanes on the 55m straightaway and due to those constraints, there will only be ten visiting teams at the meets.
The first outdoor meet of the season will be another trip to Birmingham, this time for the Southern Invitational hosted by Birmingham Southern College. This meet will be at Panther Stadium, BSC’s multi-use facility housing football, lacrosse, cross country and track and field.
On March 20-21, the team will make the short trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the Emory Invitational, the second meet of the season the Lions and Lady Lions will travel to that is hosted by the Eagles.
The team will have the opportunity to travel to Savannah, Georgia for the Tiger Twilight which will be on April 1 beginning at 4:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by Savannah State University and the meet will be run at Ted Wright Stadium.
Piedmont will then be traveling to Cullowhee, North Carolina for the Beynon Catamount Classic on April 10-11 in one of their final meets of the year. The cross country team competed in Cullowhee to begin its season at the Western Carolina Invitational.
The team’s will end the season visiting Sewanee for the third time this season for the Mountain Laurel Invitational on April 17 at the Coughlan Track. That will mark the final of eight competitions this spring for the Lion and Lady Lion track and field teams.
